Return to CultTVman's Fantastic Modeling Return to Modeling Star Trek

Joe Brown's Norway

And while we are doing Starfleet ships, here's my scratch build of the Norway Class cruiser, the USS Oak Ridge.  I had built  this for Starship Modeler's Dominion War Contest, and entered it into the Canon, scratch built category.

The hardest part of doing this model was that there is virtually NO research material out on the Web that I could locate.  So, armed with the scenes from Pedro's Shiporama and the Trek Encylopedia, I sculpted a small chunk of blue foam down to the rough shape of the primary hull, and carved the warp engines and their pylons out of styrene sheet.

I used dry transfers to do the numbering and the lettering, and free-hand painted the rest.  I'm still really pleased  with the way it turned out, and I have been surprised at the number of people who think that I had bought it as a kit!  Kinda one of the higher compliments that a scratch-builder can receive!
