Jim Small's Batmobile

A few months ago, a customer asked me to build a TV Batmobile for him. He wanted to have it made using the 1/25th scale  "Caped Custom" kit. This is the result. The kit is made from resin, bud does not come with tires or axles. The kit had a few flaws, mainly prominent asymmetry problems with the body and a rough "orange-peel" surface which required extensive sanding, probably as a result of using a worn out mold.

The kit was finished mostly stock with a few minor details added, mainly inside the engine compartment. A coiled wire was added to the "Bat-Phone". The model was painted using automotive laquers from an airbrush, the red stripes were painted freehand, and the car was coated with  clear lacquer after applying some after market decals.

The top beacon lights up, using a flashing LED included in the kit. The batteries are in the rear. The three pipes are made from real aluminum  pipe, also included ion the kit. The little removeable "flame" coming out the tailpipe is made from a Q-tip swab pulled to shape, soaked in thin CA and painted with fluorescent yellow and orange.  Bare Metal Foil was used for the chrome trim.

For those of you looking to build a nice Batmobile model, this "Caped Custom" kit is worth the money, despite the flaws. It apperas to be quite  accurate. There is a review of the kit shown on CultTVman's main site.

Now for the shameless promotion: After the model's delivery, I got the following comment from my customer:  "My Batmobile arrived yesterday! IT IS PERFECT!!!!  I can't tell you how pleased I am with the final result!  IT IS EVERYTHING I HOPED IT WOULD BE AND MORE!  Thanks you so much for the obvious time and attention you put into its construction!"

He wants me to build a Batboat for him now!
